The campaign, called the Adopt-A-Future (A-A-F), “educating a generation of refugee children” was established by UNHCR to in 2017 to raise funds for refugee schools in Kenya from 2017 and end in 2018. As of February 2018, our Chapter and the Southern New York Division have raised $10,577.00. That is a good start, but there is plenty more to be done. We urgently need your help and hope that you will respond generously to appeals that will be sent out periodically during 2018.
On April 26, 2018, UNA-USA’s National team presented a webinar entitled, “Chapter Sustainability Series: Fundraising & Adopt-A-Future". During the webinar, the Team explained how Chapters and divisions are raising funds in their community to support quality education for children in Kenyan refugee camps and appealed to all chapters can join in too!
I found Webinar very educational as it was centered on fund raising activities and methods to support refugee children at Kakuma Camp in Kenya. Examples from other Chapters were given showing how they have organized their activities so far and their advice that fundraising activities should be organized and held continuously throughout the year. It is my recommendation we try and copy some of the examples and start more activities to ensure we bridge the $20,000.00 gap before 2018 ends. Here is the link to view the recorded webinar as the participants were advised to share this link with any interested chapter members!

As we await details for fundraising activities during 2018, please feel free to assist this very important initiative in any way by using the simple concept of “Nights of a Thousand dinners”. For example; you can host a dinner in your home for friends and family and collect contributions from the guests. Others might throw a cocktail party or a picnic bash, or even involve a local restaurant and charging donations that range from $25 per guest to $1000 or more. The Host will forward all the collected funds to the Association through the President of Westchester Chapter.
